Its been quite sometime since I wanted to write something about devotion.
All these years of my life, I have been thinking that service to GOD is more sacred than service to man; may be, it is. But as I grow, I observe that I have started looking at the same things differently and this is leading to a change in my thought process and my views on several things I thought would not change for my lifetime, have started undergoing a change.
One such area is devotion; of late I have started feeling that the saying Service to mankind is perhaps service to GOD!!!
From ancient times, devotion to god (according to hindus) comprises of chanting mantras, visiting temples regularly, observing fast on special occassions such as karthigai, and so many other best practices.
Of late I have started to feel that these are not the only means of reaching out to GOD ; let me elaborate my view:
You are getting ready to go to a special temple for an auspicious occasion (which may be comes only once a year) when your grandma wants you to be by her side and anoint her knees - what will you be prompted to do?
I would definitely cater to my grandma's needs; I can meet GOD a little later - its ok, he can take it.
And am absolutely happy with this change. If am seeing someone in pain before my eyes, let me first do all that I can do for them ( spend time with them, be with them by their bedside) and then leave the rest to GOD; instead of praying to GOD for 2 hours for their well being, I can pray to GOD for a few minutes and spend the rest of 1 hr 50 minutes with them and make them feel good.
